Moscow is considered to be one of the greenest capitals of the world. There are about 100 parks, 13 gardens, more than 700 squares and over 100 boulevards. Among the 50 historic parks are Kuskovo, Ostankino, and the Tsaritsino estates. The vast forests of Losinyy Ostrov, Izmaylovo, Serebryannyy Bor, the magnificant Botanicheskiy & Timiryazevskiy gardens and the oldest parks of Moscow - Izmaylovo, Sokolniki, Lefortovo, Kolomenskoe, Kuskovo and Kuzminki are considered to be classic models of landscape architecture.
Many parks have recreation halls and sports fields, tennis courts, cafes, restaurants, band shells, playgrounds, amusement parks with rides for children, pavilions with pastimes such as slot machines, electronic games, billiards, reading rooms, and even boating, skating and x-country ski rentals in winter as well as paths and gardens. They are a favorite place for picnics, perfect for a Sunday afternoon, especially for children.
It is not absolutely necessary to go out of town to find a recreation area. You can spend a peaceful time in the Tayninskiy Garden inside the Kremlin Walls or in Alexandrovskiy Garden along the Kremlin Walls between the Arsenal and the Borovitskaya tower.
The most popular places for rest and recreation are TsPKiO n.a. Gorkiy, the green fields of Vorobyovy Hills, VVTs and many other beautiful spots.
